A Gift Two Years Coming!

Courtney Avatar

Hi, welcome to or welcome back to Stitched Serenity. This is our first big project concept post of the year, and it’s for a gift that’s two years coming! When I say big project posts, you should be thinking like our African Flower Tarantula! I give myself a bit more time for these projects because they are a bit (a lot) more time consuming. I may also use these big project posts to explore new art forms, so I have a bit of a longer time to look into new things. That being said, I’m so excited to tell you what we’re going to be doing this week!!

If you’ve read my Crafts Blogger: Why I Love My Profession blog post, you may have an idea where we’re going with this. Long story short, I bought materials for a birthday present for my fiancé in February of 2023, at his request. That was two years ago. Almost to the day. I haven’t touched these materials in two years. Literally a gift two years coming!!

The Gift

Hunter’s birthday is February 15th. I’m starting so early so that if I need more time, I have it to finish his gift, two years coming.

Hunter requested a quilt, and picked all of his own fabric, but left the pattern up to me. I know its probably not smart, but I decided go big or go home, we’re doing a king sized quilt, maybe queen if I don’t have enough fabric. I wanted to go a bit easier on myself, so I decided I’m going to do a normal 5x5inch square quilt. We are going for it guys, wish me luck. Now, I will be using a sewing machine, so this is a stay at home project.

The Pattern

Now, I’ve been teasing a pattern for the past week. While I have free time, not on my sewing machine, I want to perfect and write that pattern. I plan to start with a color pallet of white and pink, but there are so many beautiful colors that we could use with the pattern I’m envisioning. Black and white, purple and white, white and literally any other color as the supporting color.

I also have some plans to include some customization options, for the beanie, like loops at the end of the ears so you can add different hanging items at the end of the ears, like stars or hearts. I’m just so excited to get started with this beanie!

Here we are guys…

This MOnth So Far

Now, I plan to do a big post at the end of the month every month that shows all of the hexagons for our year long project (I finally got the yarn for that, by the way!!), an overview of how my goals and plans are working out, and plans, if i have any, for the next month.

I should have done my “month so far” last week, but I didn’t, so we’re doing it now!!

My Goals

  • Make at least one sale a month.
    • This one is not completed, I haven’t made a sale this month yet, and I partially attribute that to being sick and unable to work for about half the month. That being said, I did add several items to my store this month so I am proud of that. If I don’t make a sale this month, I’ll roll the goal over to making two in February.
  • Be more creative.
    • I feel that I haven’t quite had the space to be able to be more creative this month because I was so sick, but I think the quilt this week will help me feel more creative because it is a new art form for me. So I’m excited for that!
  • Make my own patterns.
    • I have my first pattern in the works, and I’m so incredibly excited to get it to you! Keep an eye out!!
  • Make you smile!
    • Did I make you smile this month?
  • Create worth while content to entertain you!
    • I hope my content entertained you some this month, even though I wasn’t at 100%.
  • Start and work on my secret big project that I will be showing you guys!
    • This has not started just yet, but I did get my first two cones of thread this month, I just need to pick up an ergonomic hook, and I can get started!
  • Reach 100 followers on Facebook or Instagram.
    • I wasn’t able to do much advertising on Instagram or Facebook this month because I was so sick, so hopefully I’ll be able to do a little better in February!
  • Reach at least 10 reoccurring readers on my blog!
    • I have had several readers, and some gmail sign ups, so I’m excited to reach this goal very soon!

What is NExt Month going to look like?

The first two posts of next month will be on the first and the fourth.

The first will be my January Temperature Blanket Update and Month Overview of January.

The fourth will be the unveiling of the Quilt!! I’m so excited to get started.

I have some big plans for February that I’m excited to get going on!
