Crafts Blogger: Why I Love my Profession so Much.
—
Hey everyone! My name is Courtney, and as you may be able to tell, blogging is relatively new to me. This is my first published blog post, although I have several posts that I am currently writing. I am so excited to be able to share my love of different arts and crafts with you. Being a crafts blogger is something that I have anyways wanted to do, so I’m excited to finally take the dive!
This post contains affiliate links. If you make a purchase through one of these links, I may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. Thanks so much for supporting my blog and small business.
This is me. On the left, I was about to take a tour of Waverly Hills Sanitorium. I sent that photo to my fiancé, then boyfriend, before the tour to show how excited I was. On the right, is me and that same man, my now fiancé, Hunter, during our maternity shoot October 2023.
While I specialize in crochet, I love the beauty of all arts and crafts, made by anyone and everyone. Your skill level doesn’t matter, if it’s hand-made, it’s beautiful. I have so many insane aspirations. I want to try so much stuff and being a crafts blogger will hopefully help me actually try some of that stuff. Let’s talk about it!
Crochet
Crochet is my main art form. I started crocheting early-ish 2020. Crochet was my Covid-19 hobby. I spent a lot of Covid learning to crochet. About mid 2021, I was tired of this craft and felt like there wasn’t much else for me to do with it. I love crochet, and it is genuinely the most comfortable hobby I have. Crochet is how I spend most of my craft days. I can and have made plenty of things, but I am still learning a lot at the moment. I have extended into making a lot of easy wearables, like bandanas and bucket hats. I’ve made one top, and I am working on both a shawl and a cardigan.
Even though I have technically been crocheting for about two and a half years now, I would almost still consider myself a beginner – maybe intermediate (although I can easily follow intermediate and advanced patterns). I love making things, it is so important to me to be making something. I still have so much to learn in this area and I’m eager to get to it. Here is a few examples of some things I have made.
Going from left to right, this first photo is a beautiful mandala placemat. This placemat is made from the first several rows of the viral Six Day Star Blanket Pattern (which I plan to review very soon. Stay tuned!). The second photo is a psychedelic picot bandana, made from Lily Sugar n’ Cream yarn. The third photo is what I like to call a Sunburst bucket hat. This is also made from Lily Sugar n’ Cream. This bucket hat is one of my favorite creations so far. I love how the white and rainbow work together. I would love to make this same pattern with that rainbow and black to see the colors really pop!
Both the bandana and the bucket hat will be available in my shop! This last photo is a very old creation of mine. I made this teddy bear that looks more like a mouse. I made this bear in 2020. Unfortunately, this bear is the one product that I sold back then, so I don’t have it anymore. Being a crafts blogger will help me show you more work like this.
Knit
Now, what makes the most sense to follow up crochet with? Why, Knitting, of course! Turn out? No. I never did learn to knit. I would LOVE to learn to knit, but every time I try, I get frustrated and stop. I made about two rows of 1×1 ribbing one time, and then dropped a stitch and stopped. Knit is such a beautiful art form. Every time I see something knit; I stop to stare at it. Eventually, I will learn to knit, I promise. I don’t have anything to show you this time unfortunately, but I am so excited to learn this craft! I hope you’ll stick around to see it!
Cross Stitch
I have always loved pixel coloring apps and coloring books. As far as I can relate it, these two things are just alike. I absolutely LOVE to cross stitch. It is hands down one of my favorite crafts to do and admire. There’s just something about watching a beautiful piece of artwork dissolve into individual pixels of color that is so fascinating and beautiful to watch. This kind of art is just SO beautiful and impressive. I have designed a few patterns, but I haven’t been able to test them yet. They will be added to my shop, both as patterns and products, as soon as I can test them.
Sewing
Separate from quilting, I love to sew. I started sewing by hand sewing lining into bags that I have made. I love sewing so much. Hand sewing is so much fun and so mindless. The only downside is that it takes so long. Other than that, I have sewn a few things on my Singer machine, such as a pincushion that I promptly lost. Sewing is such an attractive craft to me. I want to learn so much of this craft. I want to make clothes and other items. I’m so excited to spend more time on my sewing machine, and I hope you join me in learning a thing or two.
Quilting
Separate from sewing, Quilting is so interesting and intimidating. I would love to get sucked into quilting, but I have been so scared to partake in this craft. It just feels like there is so much to do wrong and every problem would be so easily visible that I’m scared to even try. I promised my fiancé I would make him a quilt and brought him fabric shopping on his birthday. His birthday in 2023. February 2023. It is currently October 2024, and I have not touched any of the fabric that I got for that blanket. Oops. I hope you can help hold me accountable as a crafts blogger to get this blanket done!
Other Hobbies I would like to try as a Crafts Blogger.
Here is a short list of other hobbies that I would love to take a crack at.
- Pottery
- Woodburning
- Stained Glass Art
- Painting
- Watercolor Painting
There’s even more but these are ones that come to mind immediately.
Where the Magic Happens.
This is my desk! This is where I keep all my materials, as well as some items I have to make some of my work easier, including a yarn winder and a yarn bowl. I have the yarn bowl linked below. Both of these items help me with my crochet quite a bit.
Here is the link to the bowl. https://amzn.to/3Y1n6JP
There are only a few things that I would love to add to this space, like a cozy blanket and a rug. Otherwise, this is where the magic happens! This desk is comfortable and works great to keep me focused. This space feels perfect for me as a crafts blogger to explore my several aspirations!
This is also where my sewing machine is stationed. I have a Singer 7285Q Patchwork, and for the few projects that I have made on it, it has been great so far!
